Our engagement story

May 24, 2010

So as of tomorrow Ryan and I will have been engaged for a full 2 weeks! We are planning a summer wedding so we only have 88 days left till our wedding its crazy! But we have been together for over 7 years .
So here is the short version of how he asked me to marry him . I was holding my nephew Ben at my brother’s house . Ryan came over to pick me up and got down on one knee- I knew it was coming – the night before I picked out my ring. So Ryan says:”Kristi will you marry me?” I say:”YES, YES, YES! ” And right when I say the last YES! Little Ben spit-up all down the front of my shirt. I would have to say we didn’t care he is so cute and we were so excited it didn’t matter :)

green smoothie-update

May 1, 2010

The challenge was going great after 11 days I was feeling wonderful and seeing a difference in my skin. But that night I was doing the dishes and dropped my blender on the floor. Needless to say we no longer have a blender. So I had to stop the challenge. As soon as we can get another blender I hope to start back up with a smoothie for breakfast.

I love good deals!

April 26, 2010

So here are  a few things I picked up 2 weeks ago when I went Thrift-ing :) I would say overall we got some GREAT deals !

$3- we really need some bathroom storage . We don’t have any in this bathroom …

Free !!!! We found this in the attic of my Mom’s garage and its in wonderful condition !

$12.50 at  an estate sale ! It was marked down to half price. It’s not the best picture but it looks like a flower with green and white petals.

Best find of my life , a brand new bread maker with everything I needed for $10 . We have made 3 loaves of bread and it has already paid for itself !

I got the complete set of these dolls for $2.50 I don’t think they were ever used :)

green Smoothie challenge day 2 !

April 20, 2010

Today got of to a rough start. I wanted to try a different smoothie but found out this morning that I do not like the texture of Kale at all in a smoothie. So I didn’t get to have my smoothie this morning ,and I’m drinking it now .

I would say that today when I woke up I felt awake before my stumble to the coffee pot . And more alert and with it today. So far so good ! Here is the smoothie I have been making:

2-cups water

2-Handfuls romaine

1-cup strawberries

2-Bananas

And I LOVE it !

If anyone has a good green smoothie that tastes like bananas please let me know :)

The green smoothie challenge

April 20, 2010

I joined the Green Smoothie Challenge of Facebook  over the weekend.  It runs 2 weeks , I think it is something I can do for two weeks. Today was my first “official” day. I made up my smoothie last night and I wanted to try it to see if I thought I would be able to do this or not. It was better than I thought it would be and I drank all of it other than the one glass I gave my brother because he wanted to try it out to.  Today I got on my local library website to reserve some books on green smoothies.  Tonight I already made my new one for tomorrow. I hope to keep you updated on how its going.

Here is the link for the wonderful lady who is hosting the  green smoothie revolution :)

Compost!

April 12, 2010

Last night we had a lot of veggie and fruit scraps . And I decided it was the perfect time to start a compost pile at the new house. We happened to have a metal mesh basket in the garage that was there when we moved in . It is going to make a great compost bin. I know that it will not be broken down by the time I get my raised bed boxes ready  fo planting so here is my trick to you. I take my compost bin and empty it out into the bottom of my raised bed boxes. Then I take newspaper and lay it down on top of the compost. Then water the newspaper really good. The fill in with dirt and plants. The paper will break down and as the plants grow they will get lots of good nutrients from the compost and paper.

Ryan and I are hoping to get in 6 raised beds this year. Its a lot , but If we plant it I know our grocery bills will go down and our veggie and fruit intake will go up. So its win , win.

So here is my challenge to you: Plant a garden this year.  It can big big or small . The rewards are amazing :)
